Descriptions of eventual streetcar designs from both RTD and City of Denver plans make references to “low floor” rail cars, which make sidewalk-level boarding easy for pedestrians, bikes and wheelchairs. As we all know, boarding RTD light rail means “three steps up,” like boarding a conventional bus. No doubt you noticed how the older-model Siemens RTD rail cars - which don’t meet current ADA standards - make wheelchair and bike entry difficult, if not impossible. Harder for cars in some places, yes - but so much better for walkers and bikers. This blend of transportation modes is the model for Denver’s future transit grid, with streetcars along the big streets. I especially like your “streetcar” elements, showing how rail mixes at-grade with driving lanes for cars. Notice anything different? This refreshed map features straight lines which not only makes it easier to read, but is also much less confusing when trying to trace a route.Īn excellent, insightful report, Ryan! Your photos and commentary really take us for a ride into the future. Let’s start out with a new rail system map I spotted on a train. To catch the R-Line, you have to ride up to Belleview on the E / F-Lines, or take the H-Line and transfer between the Dayton and Florida Station. I started my journey at the Colorado Station. The line also provides new options for Central Aurora residents to have a one seat ride to the Denver Tech Center and a two seat ride to Downtown Denver. The R-Line will help connect Aurora to Denver International Airport and give those living in the Denver Tech Center and Lone Tree a shorter ride to the A-Line. The line itself runs from Lone Tree (Lincoln Station) to North Denver (Peoria Station) where it meets up with the A-Line. The R-Line, which primarily cuts through Aurora, contains 10.5 miles of new track while connecting to the existing track at the Nine Mile Station. Buildings have taken most of the space. So after look at this map seeing all the track I am trying to make the Denver Union area look just as busy with track.Last week, RTD opened one of the final light rail lines in the current FasTracks plan. Most of this is all gone just the UP yard and 38 street are left. in the area there was once 5 turntable 2 of them you can see. The Pullman yard is North east of the Up yard. and just south of that is the Rio Grande Yard that is not on the map. Rice yard is the C&S yard that was shard with the Santa Fe. Here is a map of Denver in 1957 note all the yards around the Station 38 street yard in just north of the Denargo Market the yard you see by Blake street is the UP yard that is still in use today just like the 38 street yard. adding to the table means that we only have 31" aisle that is too tight for the area 36" would be better. A Lower Downtown landmark, Union Station serves as a regional transit hub and the center of a new mixed-use neighborhood. this gave just enough room to get all the tracks in. We then shifted the curve coming in to the yard then moved the yard closer to the edge of the table. Click to find information about the routes of Bustang and a map of the various lines. I work on Union Station and cut a little off the front to give a little room. Check the bus schedules, fares, maps, and more. Jon and I worked on this tonight for 5 hours and here is what we came up with. That is the update for the Colorado Front Range. So until the crew gets together we figure out how best to deal with this I will continue to build the latter going into Rice yard. Well back to the drawing board I don't think I really wanted cut Denver union station down any more than it is as it looks really good. As it sits right now I would only be able to place three tracks in front of union station (the prototype had eight tracks) and still have eight tracks in Rice yard. I had originally planned to have four passenger tracks and the Rice yard would have eight tracks.Īs you can see from the photographs that's can to be a small problem. ![]() When drawing on the CAD program I had failed to remember to put in the passenger platforms in front of Denver union station. So Sean and I carried on as we finish the siding in Longmont and turn the corner to head into Denver.Īs I turned the corner and looked at the plot drawings I saw a huge mistake. And turnout was not too good as some of the crew had personal and work obligations to meet. As work continues we had a work weekend last week. ![]()
